1/4 cup melted butter
2 cups flour
1 cup cornmeal
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs with shells
2 cups milk
Directions:
Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Quickly stir in wet ingredients with a wooden spoon. Remove 1-1/2 cups batter for birds. Stir in 1 crushed eggshell, 1/2 cup chopped carrots,1/2 cup crushed pellets. Pour in lightly greased mini loaf pan/pans. Pour remaining ingredients in lightly greased 8-8 baking dish. Bake in preheated, 425 oven about 20 minutes, mini loafs less, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool and slice mini loafs, and freeze in Ziplocs. Defrost as needed. Enjoy the large pan of cornbread with your family!
This is the most wonderful, moist cornbread recipe you will ever find. Your bird will love it and so will your family! If you want to make an entire batch for your family, increase butter to 1/2 cup, and of course don't add eggshells, pellets and carrots.
There are joys which long to be ours. God sends ten thousands truths, which come about us like birds seeking inlet; but we are shut up to them, and so they bring us nothing, but sit and sing awhile upon the roof, and then fly away. ~Henry Ward Beecher
