Fancy Suet Cakes
2 c. ground suet (about 1 lb.
1 c. peanut butter (smooth or chunky)
1 c. rolled oats
1 c. yellow cornmeal
1 c. wild bird seed
1 c. sunflower seeds

Melt the suet, let it cool completely, and then melt again. (melting it twice makes it harder when cooled). Remove it from the heat, add the peanut butter, stir until well blended, and then mix in all the other ingredients. Pour this
mixture into foil molds (made by lining the inside of a 4" by 4" by 1" cardboard box with aluminum foil), margarine tubs or cupcake liners placed inside muffin tins. Chill. When the mixture is firm, remove the cakes from
molds. Store in plastic sandwich bags in your freezer until needed.
Spring would not be spring without bird songs.
- Francis M. Chapman
Finches love thistle seeds. But only goldfinches can eat upside-down. Goldfinch feeders have openings underneath perches so other birds can't elbow their way into that particular chow line.
