--ANSWERS TO KITTY CAT QUIZ: TRUE OR FALSE:
--1. A can of cat food is equal to about one whole mouse.
FALSE. That would be about 5 regular mice!
--2. Most cats are left-pawed.
TRUE - at least according to researchers at Oxford University. Since the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, most cats are right-brain dominant.
--3. President Rutherford B. Hayes had the first ever Siamese cat in the United States.
TRUE. Here's the story:
The president's wife Lucy left her cats home in Ohio when they went to live in the White House. She missed them terribly. Knowing this, David Sickels, the US consul in Bangkok got permission from the king of Siam to make a gift of a Siamese kitten to the First Lady. This was a big event, as the Siamese breed was considered royal in Siam and had never been exported (except for those
that had sailors illegally smuggled out of the country.) So, Miss Pussy, renamed Siam, became the first Siamese in America. And the rest, as they
say is history!
--4. Catnip is a member of the tea family.
FALSE. Catnip is a member of the mint family, and there are over 3,500 different species of mint.
--5. Milk is a highly recommended drink for cats.
FALSE. Unless it's mama cat's milk for her kittens. Cows milk, for sure, is not good for cats. Cats, like many humans, have a lactase deficiency. They can't break down milk sugar, lactose, and so develop diarrhea after drinking milk.
