1 lb. ground beef (ground turkey or cut up steak can be used to)
1 1/2 cups uncooked rice.
1 8 ounce can tomato sauce ( salt free or regular)
3 cups water
1 tsp. garlic powder (or one crushed garlic clove)
1 1/2 tsp. salt (more or less to taste)
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. Cumin
Fry your meat until brown. Add rice and fry until rice starts to turn white. Add tomato sauce, and water then spices. Cook until all the water is absorbed and the rice is done. You can add a salad and vegetables, works well with refried beans and a cilantro salad.
Keep certain herbs, such as parsley and cilantro, fresh in a little "vase" in the refrigerator. Fill a jar with about 2 inches of water, place the stems in the water and then put a plastic bag over the herbs. Hold the bag in place with a rubber band around the neck of the jar.
