* When traveling make sure your dog has a sturdy leash and collar with identification tags, a license, and proof of rabies vaccinations.
* Consider a permanent form of ID (such as a microchip) that can increase the likelihood of reuniting you with your dog if he gets lost. (check out www.akccar.org for more information.)
* Carry recent pictures of your dog with you. If you are separated, these pictures will help local authorities find your dog. Some dogs can't adjust to abrupt changes in diet, so pack your dog's regular food, bowls, and water. And don't forget to bring your vet's phone number.
In the world which we know, among the different and primitive geniuses that preside over the evolution of the several species, there exists not one, excepting that of the dog, that ever gave a thought to the presence of man. ~Maurice Maeterlinck
You already know you need to feed, walk and exercise your dog every day. But did you know you need to brush Buster's teeth regularly? It's probably not as hard as you think: Dog toothpaste may be beef- or chicken-flavored and dogs tend to think of it as a treat, especially if you acclimate your pet from an early age. To brush Buster's teeth, push the skin back over his teeth and brush the outside of the closed jaw.
