Dogs in Wisconsin partied in a good cause at a Dogtoberfest
to raise money for animals stranded by Hurricane Katrina.
The event at the Capital Brewery beer garden featured live
music, food and prizes for dogs and their owners, WMTV in
Madison reported.
It was originally intended to raise money for the Dane County Humane Society, but the group felt there was a greater need elsewhere. "We actually decided to turn it into a fundraiser for the animal victims, knowing that funds really need to get down there to help them, some of the devastation that we've heard
about, we knew it was important," said one of the organizers, Tracy Earll.
The society has also been providing a refuge for pets from the Gulf Coast that have lost their families. Some cats are still available for adoption.
