How do magicians
pull a rabbit from a hat?
This trick is so embedded in magical lore that "pulling a rabbit from a
hat" has become an expression to describe doing the impossible. But it is possible and is usually accomplished via the old bunny-in-the-bag routine.
A top hat is placed upright on the back of a table. On a shelf on the
magician's side of the table, concealed from the audience, is a handkerchief holding the rabbit. The handkerchief is formed into a bag by a rubber band that ties its corners together. While the magician waves his wand over the hat with one hand, he uses the fingers on the other to simultaneously grasp the hat brim and the top of the bag below it. As he pulls the hat off the table he sweeps the bag into it, simultaneously flipping off the rubber band and turning over the hat. Voila!
Out comes the rabbit.
It is a well known trivial fact that Neil Armstrong was the first man to step onto the moon. However, many do not know that he stepped onto the moon with his left foot.
